Patients with acute coronary syndromes can now be diagnosed according to the release of a biochemical marker of myocardial necrosis. In the absence of characteristic ECG changes, a positive TROPT sensitive rapid assay clearly establishes the diagnosis of non-ST, non-Q wave myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) which can be treated immediately and effectively.
